Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression Treatment from Dr. Craig Stull in Portage, MI

Many individuals with neck, back, or leg pain become discouraged because discomfort interferes with their preferred lifestyle and might even make it impossible to complete regular daily routines.

.

Patients who visit Optimum Health Chiropractic Center in Portage can look forward to whole-person chiropractic care that finds the underlying cause of discomfort instead of merely treating the symptoms.  One highly effective treatment Dr. Stull offers is spinal decompression.

What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal decompression is a treatment rendered on either a surgical or a nonsurgical basis.  When part of a chiropractic care plan, decompression is always nonsurgical.

Dr. Stull notes that this therapy works by stretching the spine.  It alters force and position to eliminate pressure from discs.  This is a treatment frequently used for:

  • Sciatica
  • Herniated discs
  • Back or neck pain
  • Spinal misalignment
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Diseased or injured nerves in the spine

Chiropractors perform this treatment by positioning the patient on a specially designed motorized table.  Using a computer, they adjust the movement of the table to meet the individual’s needs.  As the force and the position of the table motions change, the resulting decompression stretches then relaxes the spine in an alternating manner to foster self-healing.

Dr. Stull conducts programmed and customized treatment sessions using our state-of-the-art DOC Spinal Decompression Unit.  This therapy separates misaligned vertebrae and reduces pressure on affected discs or spinal nerves to eliminate pain or other discomforts such as numbness or tingling.

What to Expect from Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression is an outpatient type of chiropractic care.  At an initial consultation, Dr. Stull conducts a comprehensive exam and assesses each patient’s health history, complaints, and symptoms.  A diagnosis might require one or more diagnostic tests, after which each patient receives a customized treatment plan.

During decompression therapy, patients are fully clothed.   Dr. Stull positions them face up or face down on the decompression table.  Individuals experience an alternating pattern of traction and relaxation as he directs the computer to adjust the table’s motions.  Our practice designs each session according to the individual’s weight, health, needs, and specific injury.
