Spinal Decompression FAQs

Spinal Decompression FAQs

At Optimum Health Chiropractic Center in Portage, we provide holistic wellness services through chiropractic treatment for patients looking for a natural approach to pain relief. Most people are aware that chiropractors treat patients suffering from back or neck pain. However, chiropractic treatment extends well beyond just back pain.

.

Misalignments in the vertebrae can have a negative impact on the tissues surrounding the vertebrae, negatively affecting the rest of the musculoskeletal system. Our chiropractic care works to realign the vertebrae to reduce pressure or inflammation along the spinal column. There are several approaches our chiropractor can take to spinal realignment. The most effective treatment we use for misalignments is spinal decompression therapy.

What Causes Spinal Pain?

The discs in your spine are circular cushions of cartilage filled with fluid that keep your vertebrae from rubbing against one another. It is not uncommon for trauma to cause a disc to slip out of its protective position. Occasionally, a disc will lose its fluid, making the vertebrae come in direct contact with each other. It is also possible for discs to degenerate or dehydrate, causing them to not function as adequality.

How Does Spinal Decompression Work?

Our chiropractor performs spinal decompression treatment, which consists of the patient lying down on a specialized table. Once positioned, our chiropractor will connect you to a motorized device. The device will move one half of your body one way while the other side moves in the opposing direction. As a result, your spine gently stretches, improving hydration of the spinal discs. This improved hydration allows the spinal discs to heal properly from any injuries or conditions.

What Conditions Does Spinal Decompression Therapy Treat?

Our spinal decompression can help patients suffering from any condition caused by disc displacement by optimizing circulation. Your blood then carries the nutrients necessary for healing to your back more efficiently. Our spinal decompression gives these discs the space they need for circulation. Back and neck pain can be relieved using spinal decompression therapy. Herniated discs, sciatica, and spinal misalignment can also be treated.
